Stages of Integration Based on Multiculturalism Strategies of Large Societies

As I previously did with Berry's expanded model, I decided to approach the model of Large Societies integrating immigrants in the same way, looking at stages of expanded strategies.
This system outlines the stages of integration from the perspective of large societies that adopt different multiculturalism strategies. These strategies influence how immigrants navigate integration, with specific stages reflecting the societal approach, whether it leans towards synergy, fusion, or global citizenship.

1. Cultural Synergy
  • Stage 1: Awareness and Initiation
Society begins to recognize the potential benefits of cultural collaboration. Initiatives are introduced to encourage interaction between different cultural groups, such as community events and shared cultural activities.
Early joint projects, introductory cultural exchanges, and efforts to foster dialogue between diverse communities.
  • Stage 2: Active Collaboration
Cultural groups start actively working together on projects and initiatives that promote shared practices and norms. These collaborations lead to the development of new, inclusive cultural expressions.
Shared cultural celebrations, collaborative community projects, and the blending of cultural practices in public spaces.
  • Stage 3: Synergistic Integration
The society achieves a state where cultural synergies are regularly harnessed to create innovative solutions and practices. Cultural exchanges and collaborations become a norm, leading to enriched and cohesive cultural landscapes.
Widespread adoption of blended cultural practices, mutual respect, and understanding, with cultural synergy driving societal innovation and cohesion.

2. Dynamic Fusion
  • Stage 1: Initial Blending
Society begins to embrace the blending of cultural elements, encouraging interaction and adaptation. Cultural practices start to merge, leading to the initial development of new, hybrid norms.
Early stages of cultural adaptation, experimentation with blending traditions, and the emergence of hybrid cultural practices.
  • Stage 2: Continuous Adaptation
Cultural elements are continuously blended and adapted, with society supporting ongoing innovation and creativity. Cultural norms evolve as new influences are integrated.
Fluid cultural practices, ongoing cultural adaptation, and regular innovation in cultural expressions and societal norms.
  • Stage 3: Evolving Cultural Identity
Society achieves a dynamic cultural identity characterized by flexibility and continuous evolution. This identity is shaped by the ongoing fusion of diverse cultural elements, allowing the society to adapt to changing needs and contexts.
An evolving cultural landscape that embraces continuous exchange, with flexibility and innovation embedded in societal norms.

3. Global Citizenship
  • Stage 1: Global Awareness and Inclusion
Society starts integrating globally connected individuals by promoting awareness of global issues and encouraging their participation in local and international initiatives. Local policies begin to reflect a global perspective.
Introduction of programs that encourage global awareness, support for global citizens, and initiatives that link local issues with global solutions.
  • Stage 2: Flexible Integration
Society adapts to accommodate the flexible needs of global citizens and digital nomads, creating an environment where they can contribute economically and culturally while maintaining connections with their home countries. Local and global identities coexist harmoniously.
Flexible policies that support global lifestyles, culturally sensitive integration practices, and active participation in global networks.
  • Stage 3: Global Cultural Leadership
Society becomes a leader in global citizenship, effectively integrating global citizens while fostering a strong sense of global responsibility. This stage is marked by a robust cultural exchange, with the society actively contributing to global solutions while respecting local traditions.
A society that is globally connected and culturally sensitive, with leadership in global initiatives and a thriving environment for global citizens and locals alike.

These stages outline the progression of integration for larger societies adopting strategies of Cultural Synergy, Dynamic Fusion, and Global Citizenship. Each strategy offers a unique pathway to cultural integration, with stages that reflect the evolution from initial awareness and collaboration to advanced stages of societal innovation, flexibility, and global leadership.
